Since 1959, Dash Travel has been a part of traveler’s most cherished moments from birthdays and anniversaries to bucket list trips. Originally located in New York, Dash Travel later moved to Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach and now has a new downtown location at 280 NE Second Ave., Cottage 2.
“I started in New York with three offices in Westchester,” said Joel Dash, 80. “I’m down here 15 years now. There have been big changes in the travel industry since I started from handwriting tickets to going completely computerized. I run the business with my son. Although I don’t go into the office every day, I’m still reachable 24 /7.”
Dash has traveled to 109 countries and pens a travel column for a newspaper. “I spent the millennium walking in Antarctica with the penguins. And Egypt was number one for me. It’s one thing to see it in the movies, but to be standing there is another thing.”
After graduating from Ohio State University, Dash said got a passion for travel with a graduation gift trip to Paris. “I was driving around Paris for three months,” Dash said. “My grandmother and sister joined me.”
After experiencing the freedom of traveling, Dash said he wanted to share the joy with others, so he started his own travel agency. Now Dash’s son, Jeff Dash, runs the agency with him.
